Programm LDN

A generative artwork for the London label Programm. A population of 650 random strings, drawn from the alphabet plus a set of block-drawing glyphs, is evolved generation by generation toward the phrase PROGRAMM_LDN.

The mechanics are a textbook genetic algorithm — fitness scored on matching characters, a mating pool weighted by fitness, single-point crossover and per-character mutation — with one twist: the mutation rate rides a sine wave, so the type repeatedly resolves into legibility and dissolves back into noise.

Built with p5.js. The whole population is rendered as a dense grid of monospaced text at 18 frames per second, ready to be captured as loops for the label's releases.
